Welcome to Lilac City Rochester Writers

Our Next Event:

August 27    Award-winning author Jennifer D. Bokal will talk about creating memorable characters.  “Great characters remain with readers long after a book has been read. But how do authors create fictional people who resonate with readers? In a word, characters must want something. By having a goal, not only are readers invited on the journey but in trying to reach the goal the story gains inherent conflict and the plot is propelled forward. Through several exercises, participants will be able to devise a backstory and goal statement for one character and leave the session knowing how to effectively use these tools.

Be sure to check out the “Conference” tab to learn about our October event.

Who we are …

Whether you’re just learning the writing craft, spending much of your time working on a literary project, or writing for a living, you’re a perfect fit for our group.

We are a not-for-profit writers’ group dedicated to providing networking opportunities, feedback, education, and motivational support to our members. With a few exceptions, we meet every fourth Saturday of the month. The business meetings start at 9:00 (members only) and the presentations begin around 10:15. The annual cost to members is $30, which defrays speaker fees and other expenses.

Our diverse membership includes published and not-yet-published authors of all genres. Every few months we gather for group critique sessions. We encourage people to check out a meeting and/or presentation for free before signing up to become a part of our network. For a list of our authors and more information about our group, find us online at www.lcrw.org. Our members also enjoy sharing their wisdom and expertise by posting to our writing blog: Visit the LCRW Writers Blog      Visit us on Facebook

Meetings are held at the Gates Community Center at 1605 Buffalo Road in Gates, NY, 14624. Enter through the Police Annex. Our meetings are in the first room on the left.  (Map to Town of Gates Recreation Department)
